When, where and who are not suitable for moxibustion therapy?

Moxibustion therapy is one of the main techniques applied in traditional Chinese medicine, which is easy to perform and can effect quickly. It has nearly zero side effects and a little bit of toxicity but normally will not do any harm to human body. There will be no adverse reaction occurs if it is performed correctly and carefully.

However, not everyone is suitable for moxibustion therapy. As fire is applied in moxibustion, the heating may causes skin burn if the moxibustion is not operated appropriately. On the other hand, moxibustion may also cause the loss of qi and blood in our body, therefore it is not meant to be applied randomly on every part of our body. In addition, people who diagnosed with “overheat” in TCM perspective are also not suitable for the moxibustion therapy.
